Looking for something to satisfy that sweet tooth? At Garrett’s Emporium scrumptious gourmet gluten-free desserts are available now. Here are some recommended items that are delicious and gluten free: gluten-free cookies, chocolates and mixes for baking.
When it comes to desserts, sometimes gluten-free products come up a little short on flavor. You don’t have to settle for less! At Garrett’s Emporium we offer outstanding gluten-free sweets with lots of flavor and good texture, that are made with excellent ingredients. Here are some of my favorite cookies, chocolates, and mixes that are a must for those who stay on a gluten-free diet.
Sun Flour Baking Company is one of my favorite cookie companies. Based in Sacramento California, their cookies are all vegan, and they have a great selection that are gluten-free. They are made with quality ingredients, organic ingredients, and are sweetened with fruit juices. They have a wonderful texture and flavor. They have a wide array of flavors such as Pumpkin Spice, Banana Nut, or Lemony Lemon. The shortbread cookie with chocolate chips is my all-time favorite cookie. They have several chocolate flavors that are outstanding. Try the German Chocolate, which has a nice cake texture and just the right balance of chocolate and coconut. If you want a dense chocolate fix, try their Golden Brownie Cookie, a rich chewy cookie filled with crunchy walnuts. For a terrific ginger cookie, I like the cookies made by Ener-G Foods in Seattle Washington. This is a delicious chewy cookie with just the right amount of ginger.
In the world of chocolates we have found two great gluten-free chocolate companies. Wei of Chocolate out of Phoenix Arizona is making inspiring chocolates that are organic, fair trade, vegan and gluten-free. They are hand-made chocolates infused with herbs, spices and flower essences. They are spicy and interesting. If you are looking for a unique chocolate, this is it! They make a delightful flavor called 'Daily Love'! The ingredients include ginger, cinnamon, and cayenne, so it's just a little spicy!
Another superior chocolate company is Sjaak's Organic Chocolates in Petaluma California. They are a family run business and they make very high quality organic chocolates, support fair trade practices and encourage sustainable agriculture through the use of organic, non-GMO ingredients. I love a socially conscious company! While they don’t mark their chocolates as gluten-free, their website indicates that they have a gluten-free environment, and my conversations with them support these claims. They make chocolate bars in dozens of flavors; try the dark chocolate with a caramel center! Their truffles are also fantastic!
For mixes you can’t beat products from Bob’s Red Mill. They use the highest quality ingredients, usually organic, and have a large selection of delicious mixes that are all gluten-free. The Brownie Mix is an absolute winner! It makes a deep and intense dark chocolate flavor combined with a wonderfully moist cake texture. Mouthwatering!! If you are a cinnamon fan, you should definitely try their Cinnamon Raisin Bread Mix. It makes a memorable and satisfying loaf loaded with plump raisins and infused with cinnamon. They recommend using it sliced and toasted for French toast!
These are some of our favorite sweet treats that we recommended to you. Package these all together in a lovely gift basket to make a great gift to a fellow friend or family member who is gluten intolerant.
Happy gluten-free Eating!

Looking for interesting Syrah wines from California? At Garrett’s Emporium we offer a small collection of our recommended wines from boutique wineries of the California Central Coast.
The Syrah grape, also known as Sirah or Shiraz, is grown all around the world. The Syrah wine is often powerfully flavored and full-bodied, and is used as a varietal and also blended. The intensity varies, depending on the soil and climate where it is grown. Due to the high tannin content and concentrated flavors, a high quality Syrah will improve with some aging.
The Syrah grape was introduced in California in the early 1900’s and planting accelerated in the 1970’s for use in the Rhone-style blends. In the past fifteen years Syrah plantings have increased significantly, with the most acreage in San Luis Obispo County.
Garrett’s Emporium is located in the heart of the California Central Coast Wine Country, with access to wines from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.
From the unique collection of boutique wines at Garrett’s Emporium, we recommend the 2004 Sage Canyon Syrah from Miller Wine Works of Napa Valley. This excellent Syrah opens with a touch of caramel spice and violet on the nose, with hints of earth and minerality. This is confirmed on the palate, with the addition of ripe black raspberries and sour cherries in combination, all laced with threads of tar and anise in a whirl of mouthfilling excitement. A touch of oak and exceptionally integrated tannins carry this wine to a graceful finish. This high class Syrah should evolve beautifully for 10-12 years.

Food is just about always a welcomed gift, especially for those who are gluten sensitive. Just imagine receiving a cheerful basket, artfully wrapped, and filled with delicious cooking items or snacks. This is a great gift hands down. Now imagine that all these foods are suitable for a gluten-free diet! This can be a terrific gift for any occasion.
There are many food companies who are now making high quality, delicious gluten-free food items, gourmet, if you will. You just have to know where to look.
Sending a gift basket of items for cooking is just about the best! High quality olive oil is a great place to start. In many parts of California olive trees thrive, and there are many small artisanal food companies making superior quality olive oils. In California’s Central Coast area, you can find many outstanding olive oils. For instance Homestead Olive Ranch in Templeton makes a delicious olive oil that has a bold, leafy green and grassy flavor. Carriage Vineyards in Paso Robles is another excellent company. Their Arbequina olive oil has a smooth flavor with a touch of pepper. These can be purchased fresh, so they have a high concentration of the nutritional characteristics you want from olive oil. Try this in your next salad dressing!
California is the second largest rice growing state in the nation, and there are some excellent rice products from 'The Golden State'. For instance, you will find several wonderful rice blends from Lundberg Farms in Northern California. Lotus Foods of El Cerrito also has many outstanding types of rice. Many of theirs are imported heirloom varieties such as the Forbidden Rice imported from China. From Lundberg and other companies there are also many rice pastas; another staple for any gluten-free pantry.
If you like olives, try an olive tapenade. There are the traditional olive tapenades made with capers, garlic and sometimes anchovies, and others that are made with a variety of vegetables such as artichokes, eggplants, red peppers and carrots. Hand to Mouth Edibles is a company in Los Angeles making scrumptious tapenades. Try their Green Olive Provençal. It’s made with green olives, extra virgin olive oil, red bell peppers, capers, Italian parsley, carrots, garlic, basil, lemon juice, herbs de Provence, red pepper; all gluten-free. Tapenades make a great addition to many recipes. Try adding it with rice, quinoa or pasta.
These are just a few gluten-free items that make a fantastic gift. You can find all these foods and much more at Garrett’s Emporium, a small family run company where they believe you can eat a ‘gourmet’ gluten free diet. Since its inception in 2006, Garrett's Emporium has accumulated a diverse collection of high quality foods and wines made primarily in California.
